Kasingkasing Press to unveil new titles this National Literature Month

Homegrown publishing label Kasingkasing Press will be launching two books by West Visayan literary couple Alain Russ Dimzon and Agnes Españo-Dimzon to be held in line with the Produkto Lokal Weekend Fair at the iconic Molo Mansion in Locsin St., Molo Plaza, Iloilo City on 30 April 2016.

Repentances & Rehabilitations by Mr. Dimzon is a poetry collection in English with an introduction by noted Visayan writer Merlie M. Alunan while Mrs. Dimzon’s Mansyon: Creative Non-Fiction sa Hiligaynon is a creative non-fiction essay collection written in Hiligaynon. With the publishing of their new titles, the independent publishing house aims to give thriving literary scene in Western Visayas a further boost. The two books are first batch of eleven pending manuscripts that the publishing house announced to publish for this year.

Mr. Dimzon, who is also a scientific researcher and environmentalist, is an active member of many cultural organizations not only in Iloilo but throughout the country, a widely published writer and has won numerous literary awards to his name while Mrs. Dimzon has passionately taught literature and creative writing in Hiligaynon to secondary school students at the School for the Arts – Iloilo National High School for many years. She has also been a dedicated cultural worker and supporter of the region’s literary development.

According to Noel G. de Leon, founder and publisher of Kasingkasing Press, “We are very proud to include the prolific works of Mr. and Mrs. Dimzon in our growing collection. As a couple, they have both contributed to the growth of West Visayan Literature. We also look forward to publishing more books from them.”

The book launching will be graced by special guest of honor, Father of Contemporary West Visayan Literature and Palanca Hall of Famer, Dr. Leoncio Deriada and Alice Tan Gonzales. He will be joined by other leading contemporary writers of the region, namely Prof. John Iremil E. Teodoro, Dr. Isidoro M. Cruz and Dr. John E. Barrios. The event is being organized in cooperation with Hubon Manunulat, a group of award-winning contemporary writers based in Iloilo City.

  1. Hi. I wanted to send out a formal invitation for KasingKasing Press but we lost our directory in the fire that razed UP Faculty Center last April 1. I'd like to include KasingKasing Press in the line-up of publishers to be considered for the Madrigal Gonzalez Prize for Best First Book.

We are making a call for entries to the 16th Madrigal-Gonzalez Best First Book Award 2016. The award, worth PhP 50,000, is open to first books written by Filipino Writers in Filipino published in 2014 and 2015. The nominated book may be (1) a collection of poems; (2) a collection of short stories; (3) a full-length novel; (4) a collection of plays; (5) a collection of creative nonfiction (literary essays, autobiography, biography, travelogue, newspaper columns, etc.); or (6) a graphic novel or a collection of short graphic stories. Please note that while we are using the UNESCO definition of a book as a publication of at least 49 pages (cover pages not included) we are open to children’s books that might fall below 49 pages. Similarly, we welcome self-published work.

As a major publisher, you are invited to submit nominations for the Award. Please include five (5) copies of each book you wish to nominate. You may nominate as many books as you wish, provided these were published within the stipulated years, and are known to you to be the first published (creative writing) books by the authors concerned. Please note that books that do not fall within the category of creative writing are not eligible. Copies of books submitted for consideration will not be returned.

The deadline for submission of nomination is 29 July 2016, 6 pm. The panel of judges will comprise of distinguished award-winning writers chosen by the Fellows and Associates of the UP Institute of Creative Writing. For inquiries, you may call 9818500 and look for Mr. Ronnie Amuyot, or email us at uplikhaan@gmail.com

Thank you and warm regards. Sana makapagpadala kayo ng entries. Salamat.
